Pharmaceutical packaging experts Origin have opted to use Enercon Industries’ induction heat sealers, providing tamper evidence and extended shelf life to medicinal cannabis products.
Origin, who act as a packaging partner for medicinal cannabis companies worldwide, selected Enercon’s handheld sealer, the Super Seal™ Junior, for its testing laboratory.
The company required a tamper evident seal for its pharmaceutical grade HDPE polymer jar, which comes with a 70mm child-resistant, screw-cap.
Speaking about the importance of induction sealing for medicinal cannabis, Jon Lant, Head of New Product Development and Innovation, said:
“The induction seal provides an excellent barrier against moisture vapour and oxygen transmission, and has delivered an extended shelf life of the packed product. It also ensures an effective means of tamper evidence.”
An induction liner extends shelf life by providing a hermetic seal, which prevents oxygen and moisture transmission into the product, helping to keep it fresher for longer. An induction seal can also prevent pilferage, which is particularly important for high value products. For those packaging dried cannabis flowers, a seal helps ensure the odour is contained, while those packing a liquid form can benefit from leak prevention.
Speaking about the Enercon induction sealer itself, Mr Lant commented:
“It’s a very reliable machine that provides us with robust and consistent results.”

Induction heat sealing is a popular choice for those packing medical cannabis and CBD products in various forms. This includes edible products, oils and liquids, flowers, and plants. Induction sealing is also compatible with a wide variety of containers and caps, including child resistant (CRC), continuous thread, and dispensing caps.
