Why Plasma Treat Composite Products?

When manufacturing composite materials, the most common joining method is to bond materials together with adhesives. However, the lack of surface roughness and the presence of contaminants such as mould-release agents, mean that the bond strength can be poor. Traditionally the industry uses surface treatment technologies such as the application of peel ply and grit blasting to ensure sufficient joint strength.

Plasma Surface Treatment is now becoming more widely used, and for many materials including Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP) and Carbon Fibre Reinforced Plastic (CFRP) plasma performs as well as the traditional surface treatment technologies, but with added benefits such as:
